The Sapphire-bellied Hummingbird is a rare, endangered and little-known hummingbird found in mangrove forests and adjacent scrubby areas along the Colombian coast. Measuring only 8 cm, this small, lonely and territorial bird displays an explosion of colour in its plumage, ranging from intense sapphire blue to green to iridescent purple. 

For multiple indigenous communities living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, birds are essential in their understanding of the world. The Guacamaya and the Hummingbird are believed to have brought maize and coca to Earth. For the Wiwa people, hummingbirds are message carriers.

Currently, they are greatly endangered due to habitat loss.

Materials  
Single 4 & Triple: 64 silk threads, metallic embroidery thread, gold-filled tubes, waxed cord.
Single 8: 120 silk threads, metallic embroidery thread, black coated beads, waxed cord. (can be delivered with gold-filled tubes under request)

Care - To ensure long-lasting and bright colours, we recommend washing your armband only by hand, using a delicate detergent. Use a towel to soak up water and let it dry flat.
