Jaguar: The enigmatic power of the Amazon
Panthera onca
Conservation status: VU - Vulnerable
The jaguar, the largest feline native to the Americas, has been a symbol of power and strength for pre-Columbian cultures. Its marked fur features spots and rosettes unique to each individual, similar to fingerprints. They are considered keystone species, meaning that they only exist if the ecosystem is healthy and secure. Like other nomadic species, they will automatically disappear as soon as they detect human presence.
Jaguars inhabit vast extensions of territory, nowadays calculated at 7.000.000 km², ranging from Mexico to Argentina. Unfortunately, this is less than half of their historical range, threatened by loss and fragmentation of their habitat due to deforestation, illegal hunting and human-wildlife conflict.
In Colombia, the jaguar’s habitat extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific Coast, going through Antioquia, Córdoba, Sucre, the Magdalena Valley and Santander. In the East, from Arauca to the Amazon, Putumayo and the Colombian Massif.1 WL bracelet = 5m² of tropical rainforest
Our WildLife Collection brings along an important mission:
For each WildLife Bracelet you purchase, we will be helping O2 Reserve to protect 5m² of native tropical rainforest in Magdalena Medio in Colombia.
